Bihać University Project Honors Student Work on Historical Truth

On September 9, 2026, the University of Bihać promoted its project called "Thirty Years Later: Knowledge, Truth and Youth Power as Foundations of Statehood." A collection of student papers from the project was also presented. The project, realized during 2026, aimed to develop a culture of remembrance. It sought to strengthen historical and legal awareness among young people. It also worked to affirm truth, justice, and social responsibility. A key focus was involving students in discussing genocide, human rights, and their responsibility to future generations.

Several organizations participated in the project. These included the Council of Congress of Bosniak Intellectuals, the Movement of Mothers of Srebrenica and Žepa Enclaves, and the Association of Victims and Witnesses of Genocide. This created strong cooperation between the academic community and organizations representing victims. The Foundation for Establishing Truth in Bosanska Krajina was also a project partner.

A central event was the promotion of nine student papers. These papers explored themes such as historical truth, war sufferings, genocide, human rights, and the role of youth in preserving memory. Students contributed their own work to help maintain historical truth. The Association of Victims and Witnesses of Genocide awarded the top papers with cash prizes. The Bosniak-American National Association (BANA) and friends also gave 100 US dollars to each student author.

Throughout the year, the project included various activities. These involved a visit to the Srebrenica-Potočari Memorial Center. It also featured a conference on genocide and Holocaust denial, Srebrenica genocide education, panel discussions, and book promotions. The project's value came from bringing together academics, students, and victims' organizations. Their shared goal was to preserve historical truth, the culture of remembrance, and the dignity of genocide victims. The University of Bihać confirmed its social responsibility by involving students as authors and participants.
