Bosnian Town of Lukavac Inaugurates Significant Islamic Center

The new Islamic Center in Lukavac officially opened on August 15, 2026. This center is one of the largest projects by Medžlis Islamske zajednice Puračić in recent decades. It took fifteen years to build. The modern complex is located in central Lukavac. It offers spaces for prayer, education, culture, youth activities, and community gatherings. The center aims to foster knowledge, respect, and love for faith and homeland.

Reisul-ulema Husein-ef. Kavazović, head of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina, spoke at the ceremony. He emphasized that mosques are vital spiritual centers for Bosniaks. They guide believers in a troubled world. Kavazović expressed concern over harsh words that damage the honor of men and women. He stated such language is not appropriate for Muslims, especially those seeking leadership. He also highlighted Bosnia and Herzegovina as a place for people of different faiths to meet. He thanked the State of Qatar for its support in the center's construction.

Muftija tuzlanski Dr. Vahid-ef. Fazlović called the opening a long-desired achievement. He described the center as one of the most beautiful religious buildings in the area. He also thanked the State of Qatar and Qatar Charity for their significant financial assistance. Fazlović stressed that mosques are places of worship and learning, preserving Islamic values and unity.

Hassan bin Mohamed Al Naemi, General Supervisor for Qatar Charity in Bosnia and Herzegovina, expressed satisfaction with their involvement. He called the center important for Lukavac's religious, cultural, and educational life. He hoped for more such projects across Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Local officials also spoke. Main Imam Zijad-ef. Vehabović highlighted the center's new spiritual value and its openness to all. Premier Irfan Halilagić of Tuzla Canton called it a fulfilled dream. Mayor Edin Delić of Lukavac praised its design and acknowledged Qatar's substantial financial role. Delić stated the center would also strengthen multiculturalism and tolerance in Lukavac. He urged different faith groups to work together for society's good.

The opening included a performance by the Behram-begova Medresa choir. Reisul-ulema Kavazović presented gifts to Qatari representatives. A final prayer was led by Muftija Dr. Aziz-ef. Hasanović.
