Chicago Remembers Srebrenica Genocide Victims

Bosnians and Herzegovinians gathered in downtown Chicago at Montrose Plaza. They honored victims of the Srebrenica genocide and marked July 11, the International Day of Remembrance. People living in the United States paid their respects to those killed in July 1995. A central message was that the truth and memory of the genocide must be preserved for future generations. Participants declared, "We will never forget. Srebrenica, July 11, 1995 – Never forget." Haris Selak organized the event. Earlier, the Bosnia and Herzegovina flag was raised in Chicago's central square at 6 AM, accompanied by the national anthem. The "Bosniak Brotherhood of Genocide Survivors" group showed their support for Srebrenica victims. They have held this annual remembrance since 2011.
