General Alagić Guarantees Safety for Catholics During Wartime Holiday

On June 22, 1993, General Mehmed Alagić of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina (RBiH) sent a letter to Mr. Pavo Nikolić at the Catholic Parish Office in Travnik. General Alagić promised to provide security for the celebration of St. John the Baptist on June 24. This included an anti-sabotage check of the church and parish office. He also enclosed a pass for free movement in the controlled area.

Alagić asked for details of any confiscated vehicles, intending to return them. He wished Catholics in Travnik a peaceful holiday. He assured that the Army of BiH would protect all citizens and believers. General Alagić also expressed his wish for Croats to return to their homes in Travnik, stating that the city belongs to all its residents.
