Grand Mufti Kavazovic Urges Good Deeds and Calls for Unity Under New Leadership
Grand Mufti Husein Kavazovic delivered a Friday sermon at the Emperor's Mosque in Sarajevo. He stated that faith in God cannot remain hidden inside a person's heart. True faith must show through good deeds, polite behavior, and responsible actions toward others. Kavazovic emphasized that moral discipline appears clearly in how people treat others, especially when they face injustice. A Muslim may be wronged or deceived, but a Muslim must never deceive others or respond to harm with harm.
Kavazovic urged believers not to spread despair or pessimism. Instead, they should lead by positive personal example and encourage good behavior, especially among young people. He spoke about adab, which means good manners and moral education. According to Islamic teachings, the best gift parents can give their children is a proper moral upbringing. Religious teachers have always taught that adab guides every daily action. It shapes how people treat parents, relatives, neighbors, and the elderly. It also teaches respect for nature and the rights of all living beings.
The sermon also connected moral behavior to faith in God. Kavazovic noted that Prophet Muhammad came to perfect moral conduct and never gave up hope even in difficult times. Therefore, believers should never despair. They must believe that goodness returns with goodness and that polite speech prevents conflict. A strong believer stays firm in faith, does good deeds, and patiently endures life's trials.
At the end of his address, Kavazovic spoke about the leadership transition in the community. On October 10, the community elected Dr. Nedzad Grabus as the new Grand Mufti. Kavazovic called on all believers to stand united behind Grabus and help him serve the faith and the people. Kavazovic also thanked God and the community for their support during his own years in office, asking the worshippers for forgiveness for any shortcomings. Before the prayer, the mosque's imam Sadrudin Iseric also addressed the gathering and presented Kavazovic with a gift.
