Maljevac Islamic Center Nears Completion with Minaret Finial

The Islamic Center in Maljevac, Croatia, is nearing its completion after 40 months of construction. A significant event recently took place: an alem, a decorative finial, was placed on the center's minaret. This marks a major step toward the center's opening.

Many people attended the ceremony. These included members of the local Muslim community. Key religious leaders were also present. Mufti Aziz-ef. Hasanović, who leads the Islamic Community in Croatia, spoke at the event. Fatih Mehmet Karaça, the Deputy President of Turkey's Diyanet, also joined. Imam Admir-ef. Muhić of Maljevac was among the guests.

Mufti Hasanović stated that the alem symbolizes pride and dignity for the entire community. He noted this was the sixth alem installed in Croatia, with another planned for Osijek this year. He mentioned previous alems placed in Gunja, Zagreb, Rijeka, Bogovolja, and Sisak. Hasanović emphasized that the Islamic Community aims to build more than just buildings. It also seeks to foster strong relationships among people. Mosques should be places where people connect, contribute, and find comfort. He thanked everyone who helped build the Maljevac center. Hasanović also expressed his joy at Karaça's presence. He highlighted that these centers show Croatia's identity as a multicultural society. He added that Muslims contribute to building a society for all citizens, regardless of their background.

Fatih Mehmet Karaça conveyed greetings from Turkey. He shared that this was his first time attending an alem placement ceremony in Europe. Karaça praised the Maljevac community for their hard work and dedication. He said the new center would benefit Muslims and all other visitors.

Imam Admir-ef. Muhić explained that placing the alem recognizes the efforts of everyone involved. This includes community members, donors, and volunteers. He called it a shared success located at the border of Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Muhić also gave a symbolic meaning to the alem. He said it reminds Muslims to live their faith as an example of peace, dialogue, and helping others. He specifically thanked people from the Bosnian Krajina region for their help.

Community members also spoke. Abdulah Nesimi, a donor, views Maljevac as one of his homes. He noted the visible progress made over 40 months. Nesimi encouraged more support to complete the final stages of the project. Indira Merdanić, another donor, expressed her happiness about the progress. She hopes the center will open very soon.

The project has united many people over the past 40 months. The Maljevac Islamic Center is now very close to opening its doors. It will serve as a new hub for religious, educational, and social activities for Muslims in this part of Croatia.
