Montenegrin Politician Questioned by Police for Calling War Criminal Mladić a Hero
Milan Knežević is the leader of the Democratic People's Party in Montenegro. Police questioned him about his recent statements regarding convicted war criminal Ratko Mladić. Knežević posted comments on social media and spoke during a parliament session. In both cases, he described Mladić as a hero instead of a war criminal.
The police report accuses Knežević of inciting religious hatred and glorifying war criminals. However, Knežević said he fully stands behind his words. He insisted that Serbs would have suffered extreme violence without Mladić. He also stated that he only spoke the truth.
Knežević announced that he will not use his parliamentary immunity. He stated that he is ready to go to prison for his beliefs. He also claimed prosecutors are targeting him because of political conflicts over parliament speaker Andrija Mandić. Finally, he called on prosecutors to investigate threats sent to him by Miloš Medenica.
