Srebrenica Memorial Center Director Alleges Political Pressure
Emir Suljagić, director of the Srebrenica Memorial Center, claims his institution faces political pressure. He reacted to statements from Bosnia and Herzegovina's Finance Minister, Srđan Amidžić. Suljagić also sent a message to American senators and representatives.
Suljagić called recent events a political campaign of intimidation, not a legitimate investigation. He stated Amidžić, Milorad Dodik, and Željka Cvijanović are involved. Suljagić claims Amidžić is blocking laws needed for the Memorial Center's independence and financial stability. He views this as a campaign against Bosniaks in Srebrenica based on their nationality. He named US politicians like Jeanne Shaheen as recipients of his message.
Srđan Amidžić responded, questioning Suljagić's "nervousness." Amidžić stated that if the institution operates legally and transparently, there is no cause for concern. He also said Suljagić's own colleagues reported him, not Dodik or Cvijanović. Amidžić stressed that those who follow the law have no reason to fear it. He concluded that no individual or institution is above the law.
