Veterans Condemn Journalist's Remarks on Sarajevo Memorial
Veterans of the BOSNA Police Detachment strongly criticized journalist Ranko Mavrak for his comments on the "Bosnian Special Forces Memorial." Mavrak, during the "Sarajevo Mayors Summit 2026" on August 14, 2026, called the memorial a "senseless thing" and a "fake monument." This statement was made in reference to a tank displayed near the 2nd Gymnasium.
The veterans clarified that the monument honors 81 fallen special forces members, including a young woman, who died defending Sarajevo. They highlighted the BOSNA unit's bravery, noting numerous awards, many given posthumously. The memorial serves as a permanent reminder of the 260 aggressor tanks that besieged Sarajevo, causing widespread destruction and loss of life. The veterans emphasized that such memorials are vital to remember the immense sacrifices made to defend the city and preserve Bosnia and Herzegovina.
