A Year Without Amidža: Remembering a Paternal Figure and Defender

One year has passed since Emin Švrakić, founder and commander of the Green Berets, died. His family, comrades, and friends gathered at the Bakr-babina mosque in Sarajevo to remember him. They shared tears and pride, recalling difficult war days.

Švrakić was a visionary. He saw the danger to Bosnia and Herzegovina before the official Army of BiH was formed. He founded the Green Berets out of deep conviction and love for his homeland. For his comrades, Emin Švrakić, known as Amidža, was more than a commander. He was like a father, a source of support who treated every fighter like his own child. Friends remembered his warmth and encouragement during the hardest times. They said he dedicated his entire life to defending Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina. He left a lasting mark. As they left the mosque, a strong message remained: never forget Amidža, his kindness, and his sacrifice for their freedom today.
