Pakistan Hosts Srebrenica Memorial and Exhibition

The Embassy of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Pakistan held a commemoration and exhibition in Islamabad on July 10, 2026. This event, at the Pakistan National Council of Arts (PNCA), marked the 31st anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide.

The program began with national anthems, prayers, and a minute of silence. A moderator recalled that Srebrenica, a UN safe zone, became the site of Europe’s worst post-World War II crime in July 1995. Hamdija Fejzić of the Srebrenica Memorial Center stressed the importance of remembering victims and historical truth in a video message. Pakistan's State Minister of Justice, Aqeel Malik, expressed solidarity and called for international peace and justice efforts.

Bosnian Ambassador Emin Čohodarević spoke about Srebrenica as a warning against hatred and impunity. He affirmed that truth and justice are founded on facts and court rulings. The Ambassador thanked Pakistan for its consistent support, including aid during the war and the Pakistani Battalion's help after Srebrenica. Pakistan continues to assist in Bosnia’s rebuilding.

The event featured "Lives Behind the Fields of Death," a documentary by the Srebrenica Memorial Center and BIRN. A video with photos by Ahmet Bajrić Blicko showed the Pakistani Battalion assisting survivors in 1995. The commemoration concluded with the opening of the "Lives Behind the Fields of Death" exhibition. Hasan Hasanović, the exhibition's author, emphasized preserving survivor testimonies via video. Pakistani officials, diplomats, and international representatives attended, paying tribute to the Srebrenica victims.
