Srebrenica Official Dismissed After Social Media Post Calling Ratko Mladić a Dog
Faruk Đozić was dismissed from his role as head of general administration in the Srebrenica Municipality. The dismissal followed a social media post about convicted war criminal Ratko Mladić. After losing his job, Đozić addressed the public through a statement online.
Đozić emphasized that the 1995 Srebrenica genocide is a legally proven fact. Today, survivors live alongside other citizens in the town. However, public figures in Republika Srpska frequently glorify war criminals. Many individuals call the genocide a myth without facing legal consequences, even though genocide denial violates the criminal code.
As a survivor who lost 27 family members, Đozić felt an obligation to speak out. He stated that his comment did not target any ethnic group. He lived and worked peacefully in Srebrenica for 15 years without ethnic incidents. His reaction focused entirely on Mladić and the danger of glorifying evil.
Đozić warned that making war criminals into heroes endangers the future. Such narratives teach young generations that violence makes someone a hero. He concluded by asking the public to judge the situation. He asked whether calling a war criminal a derogatory name is worse than the murder of thousands of people, including 27 of his own relatives.
