Vienna Hosts Srebrenica Remembrance and Reconciliation Conference

An international conference took place at the United Nations in Vienna on July 3, 2025. It was titled "Commemoration, Reflection, Reconciliation: In the Spirit of the UN Resolution on Srebrenica." The Bosnian Academic Society in Austria organized this event, with support from the BiH mission in Vienna. Attendees included Bosnians living in Austria, along with ambassadors and delegates from various countries. This broad participation showed the event's global importance. It highlighted the need for worldwide solidarity against denying genocide and for finding ways to achieve reconciliation.
Several key speakers shared their perspectives. Siradj Duhan, president of the Bosnian Academic Society in Austria, spoke about reconciliation. Geoffrey Nice, a former prosecutor for the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, discussed lessons learned from Srebrenica. Hariz Halilovich, a Srebrenica native and professor, addressed remembrance and trauma. Wolfgang Petritsch, a former High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina, talked about Srebrenica and Europe. Asim Dorović from the BiH mission reflected on 30 years since Srebrenica. A short video titled "Srebrenica: 30 Years Later" was also presented, reminding everyone of the tragedy. Iris Begić moderated the conference.
