Bosniak Organizations Condemn Politician's War Remarks, Demand Resignation
IllustrationThree prominent Bosniak organizations have strongly condemned recent statements by Sabina Ćudić. Ćudić, a member of the Bosnian Parliament and leader of Naša stranka, described the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina as a "fight for power." She denied its character as planned aggression, ethnic cleansing, and genocide against Bosniaks.
The Bosniak American National Association (BANA), the Bosniak Educational and Cultural Community of North America (BECCNA), and the Institute for Research of Genocide Canada (IGK) expressed deep concern. They argue Ćudić's statements dangerously downplay historical facts and contradict international court rulings. These words deeply offend genocide victims and all Bosnians who suffered during the war.
International courts, including the ICJ and ICTY, have confirmed a genocidal plan against Bosniaks. They established the Srebrenica genocide and found Serbia and Croatia responsible for aggressive policies against Bosnia and Herzegovina. The organizations stressed that genocide is an organized crime to destroy an ethnic or religious group, not merely a "fight for power." Denying this intent is a direct denial of genocide.
The groups are worried that such statements harm victims and destabilize Bosnia and Herzegovina. The war was not a simple conflict. It involved planned territorial division and ethnic cleansing, supported by many facts. Sarajevo endured Europe's longest modern siege. Thousands of civilians died. Mass crimes occurred, culminating in the Srebrenica genocide. Downplaying these truths harms reconciliation.
BANA, BECCNA, and IGK demand several actions. They want Ćudić to resign immediately from all political roles. They ask for criminal charges for possibly violating laws against genocide denial. They also demand a public apology to all genocide survivors and victims' families. She must withdraw her statements and accept court-established facts about the genocide and aggression. These organizations will continue to defend historical truth and universal values of justice.
